Natural Night Sky Brightness during Solar Minimum
نویسندگان
چکیده
In 2018, Solar Cycle 24 entered into a solar minimum phase. During this period, 11 million zenithal night sky brightness (NSB) data were collected at different dark sites around the planet, including astronomical observatories and natural protected areas, with identical broadband Telescope Encoder Sky Sensor photometers (based on Unihedron Quality Meter TLS237 sensor). A detailed observational review of multiple effects that contribute to NSB measurement has been conducted optimal filters designed avoid brightening by Sun, Moon, clouds, other sources (the Galaxy zodiacal light). The calculated from percentiles for 44 applying these new filters. pristine was measured change an amplitude 0.1 mag/arcsec2 in all photometers, which is suggested be due variations scales up months compatible semiannual oscillations. We report systematic observation short-time vast majority nights find related airglow events forming above mesosphere.

Artificial light alters natural regimes of night-time sky brightness
Artificial light is globally one of the most widely distributed forms of anthropogenic pollution. However, while both the nature and ecological effects of direct artificial lighting are increasingly well documented, those of artificial sky glow have received little attention. We investigated how city lights alter natural regimes of lunar sky brightness using a novel ten month time series of meas...
متن کاملRI Night sky brightness during sunspot maximum at ESO - Paranal ⋆
In this paper we present and discuss for the first time a large data set of U BV RI night sky brightness measurements collected at ESO-Paranal from April 2000 to September 2001. A total of about 3900 images obtained on 174 different nights with FORS1 were analysed using an automatic algorithm specifically designed for this purpose. This led to the construction of an unprecedented database that ...
متن کاملVariations in the sky brightness during a lunar eclipse
A total lunar eclipse is conjectured to have influence on the physical conditions of an environmental area, particularly on the brightness of the sky. The phenomenon might also be relevant on weather parameters change on Earth, such as temperature, humidity and pressure, though a straightforward correlation is not easy to establish. This work mainly aims at measuring the brightness of the sky a...
متن کاملThe new world atlas of artificial night sky brightness
Artificial lights raise night sky luminance, creating the most visible effect of light pollution-artificial skyglow. Despite the increasing interest among scientists in fields such as ecology, astronomy, health care, and land-use planning, light pollution lacks a current quantification of its magnitude on a global scale. To overcome this, we present the world atlas of artificial sky luminance, ...
متن کاملNight sky brightness at sites from DMSP-OLS satellite measurements
We apply the sky brightness modelling technique introduced and developed by Roy Garstang to high-resolution DMSP-OLS satellite measurements of upward artificial light flux and to GTOPO30 digital elevation data in order to predict the brightness distribution of the night sky at a given site in the primary astronomical photometric bands for a range of atmospheric aerosol contents. This method, ba...
